Indulge – Little Miss BBQ in Phoenix Arizona
We love barbecue and finding good barbecue in the Pacific Northwest is not that easy which is why we seek it out when we travel to the Southern United States! One place that we have fallen in love with is Little Miss BBQ in Phoenix Arizona. In this post, we share more information about both Little Miss BBQ’s locations in Phoenix to help you plan your visit!
Overview – Little Miss BBQ:
Since 2014, Little Miss BBQ has been offering up Central Texas-style barbecue to hungry crowds from a small indoor/outdoor restaurant where part of the experience was waiting in line and interacting with the staff. In some ways, waiting in line outside is part of the barbecue experience as you get to meet other people and it builds up the excitement of FINALLY getting to enjoy the meal you have been waiting so long for! The only downside is that it can be a little challenging to wait outside in 100+ Fahrenheit heat even if you have lots of water and sunscreen and it sure takes up a big part of your day if you have other plans. Thankfully, Little Miss has a second location where you can be more comfortable if you need to wait and also get to enjoy your barbecue with beers, wine, or cocktails since it opened up its Sunnyslope restaurant.
Little Miss BBQ – University:
We’ve been to Little Miss BBQ’s first location 3 times on Saturday mornings. We recommend arriving by 10:00 to grab a number. Once you have a number, you can leave and come back and find your place in line right before opening at 10:30 which is a great option during the scorching summer heat. Usually, we have our food by 11:30-12:00 which means we end up waiting in line about 1-1.5 hours. In addition to the delicious food, the staff at Little Miss always bring their A-game to make the experience a fun and memorable one as you wait in line by chatting with you and offering up samples. There is very limited indoor seating and more outdoor seating and you cannot BYOB or buy beer or any other alcoholic drinks here.
This location is open Tuesday – Saturday from 11:00-16:00 or until they sell out. **Usually closed on holidays.

Little Miss BBQ – Sunnyslope:
On our last visit to Phoenix, we were really happy that the restaurant at Sunnyslope was open and decided to try it; we ate at Little Miss BBQ’s newest location on both Saturday and Sunday for lunch! On Saturday, we arrived at 10:45, 15 minutes before opening and there were about 8 other people there, sitting around and waiting. Like the original location, staff came out and said hello and offered up samples of sausage which was great. Sure, there was no countdown and cheering when the doors opened at 11:00 but we were all happy and excited to come inside and order our barbecue. As we were waiting in line, someone from the bar came and asked if we wanted anything to drink and we both ordered Wren Brewing’s Pilsner which paired well with the food. On Sunday, they’re only open from 10:00-15:00 so we came at 10:45 and were surprised to see it was even less busy than Saturday. By the time we left at 11:45, it was obviously getting a lot busier with the after church crowd.
The menu is pretty much the same at the Sunnyslope location and we got our usual; a 2 meat plate with sausage and 2 sides. Inside and outside, there is ample seating and we of course chose to sit outside on the spacious patio that was well shaded and ventilated. We found the food to be just as good at the Sunnyslope location as the University one and it sure was way more enjoyable to not have to wait so long and we found the outdoor and indoor seating way more pleasant. Sure, in some ways, not waiting in line takes away some of the barbecue experience but we felt we also had a better one due to how good the barbecue was and how enjoyable it was to eat it on that nice patio with Johnny Cash playing in the background.
This location is open from 11:00-20:00 Tuesday – Thursday, 11:00-21:00 on Friday – Saturday, and from 10:00-15:00 on Sunday. **Usually closed on holidays.

We have enjoyed the experience and meals at both the Little Miss BBQ locations in Phoenix and recommend both to everyone; you will get good barbecue and meet their friendly staff at both locations! We really enjoy the barbecue at Little Miss BBQ and it rivals the best stuff we’ve had in Texas more or less. We always order the brisket and often the turkey (if turkey was always this good, we’d eat it more often!), with a sausage. If you are pre-ordering, it might be worth going to the University location over the Sunnyslope location as some think the BBQ is better at University due to the smoker they use there but we didn’t notice. If you are looking for a quicker and more comfortable experience similar to what is offered by the chain Rudy’s BBQ then go to Sunnyslope and enjoy your barbecue with a beer! We are really happy for Little Miss BBQ and are happy to keep supporting them by stopping in whenever we are in Phoenix and that they are open!
